Welcome the talented Lisa Renee Jones to the blog. I'm happy to have her join us to talk about her latest book, IF I WERE YOU. Today she is sharing how the story came about. I was fortunate to get an ARC of this book. It is simply amazing! I loved it! Without further ado, here’s Lisa.

I am very excited to be here today to talk about IF I WERE YOU! This story came from the my experiences with my fiancee when we were buying and selling storage auction units, long before the shows like Storage Wars existed. I remember when we started buying and selling and how uncomfortable I was with buying things people lost. But my DH is a collector and finding treasures appealed to him in a big way. So he set forth to find treasures and I helped. Oh the boxes and dirt I dug through and the odd things I found. DH went for obvious treasures and I had a knack for pulling out the unknown and researching and finding it to be valuable. Heck, we got an old yellow 70’s couch and people were fighting over it. Someone out of state sent a truck to pick it up! At first, we thought it was trash. Oh no. It was an antique and since it was made AFTER I was born, I felt like an antique!:(

But the real jewel was the journal DH laid down on the couch to reach one day when he was sick. The woman had a crazy life filled with a murder next door, an abusive boyfriend and pregnancies at a young age with lots of trauma. DH was enthralled and started begging me to write a sexy intrigue about a journal in a storage unit. That was years ago and I finally listened. So that is how IF I WERE YOU came about! So in the story you follow the journal the main character finds and the path that journal takes her on. I hope you will give it a try.

I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.
More About IF I WERE YOU
How it began….

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expires.
Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable , as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.
Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her…
The dark, passion it becomes…
Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.
All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

  2. So funny how one person's trash is another one's treasure. So true - even more so in the world of ebay now. A friend of mine goes to the storage unit auctions, but has never really found anything all that interesting. You're going to owe DH when this book makes it big!

  14. Hi Lisa,
Wonderful story on how your book came about. My question to you is - what is the weirdest thing that you or DH ever found in storage unit? Also, do you ever sit at the mall or park to people watch and get ideas?

  16. Ginger there were so many things its hard to decide what was the weirdest. The scariest was a sawed off gun with the serial number scraped off. We called the police not even knowing legally we were suppose to. I was just like -- what if this gun killed someone? Of course we will never know but if it had I assume they would have come to go through the rest of the stuff.

Strange odd things... hmmm. A cooler with some sort of empty fermenting liquor bottles. Oh the smell. And it was clearly intentional they stored them but the bottles were worthless. Very odd

    And thank you Puong!

  22. I just finished reading If I Were You and it was fantastic. I have read over 20 books this summer and I would have to put this one in the top 5. I was a little upset with the cliff hanger ending especially since book 2 hasn't been released yet. But still a favorite. Which leads to my next question, when will Being Me be released?
