Anticipated Read – Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl

Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl is next up on my to-be read. I love her books. I’m really looking forward to reading this one.

Can a city girl make it in the wild, wild West?

For makeup artist Grace Barrett, Hollywood isn't the land of golden opportunity. It's the land of difficult divas, cheating boyfriends and unemployment. So when her great-aunt offers her a free place to stay in Jackson, Grace thinks she'll spend a little time in the sticks to figure out her life, and then move somewhere exciting to live out her dreams. But it turns out that there are a few more thrills in this small town than Grace was expecting....

Cole Rawlins is a rugged Wyoming cowboy born and bred. Yet he can't help but be drawn to the fascinating big-city girl who moves in across from him. He wants to get close enough to Grace to see past her tough facade, but if he does, she might see the real Cole. The one with a Hollywood history gone bad. As they discover a sizzling attraction, it becomes harder for him to keep his demons at bay-and those fires from long ago may burn them both.

They'll need more than scorching-hot passion to make this opposites-attract affair work. But if they can learn to trust one another enough to reveal their secrets, they just might have a chance at forever.

I'm reading In His Sights by Tina Beckett. The blurb intrigues me.

Simple enough for a sniper with his training, until he realizes that the woman in danger is neither a random nor a typical victim. She's pregnant.

discovers her sister was killed under suspicious circumstances. Now Callie's become a target. Her only hope for survival is a rebel of another kind, a handsome loner of a military man who's risking his life to save her.

ARC Review If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones (Recommended Read)

If I Were You is simply amazing! This book is a definite re-read for me. It left me wanting more of Sara and Chris and the intrigue around what happened to Rebecca (the journal’s writer).

The book is written in first person from Sara’s point of view. There were times I longed for Chris’ point of view. I wanted to know what was going on inside his head because he is such a compelling character. I wanted to know his deep dark secrets. However, the book wouldn’t work if we knew what Chris thought. To know the answers would take away from the intrigue and mystery of the book.

Sara is left with a storage unit and erotic journals to deal with when her friend runs off to elope. Sara finds she can’t sell off the belongings in the storage unit. The more she reads the journals, the more determined she becomes to find the owner, Rebecca, to return her possessions and figure out what happened to her. This desire leads to Sara taking Rebecca’s place at the art gallery, which starts Sara on a path to becoming what she wanted to be.

Sara is easy to relate to. She has a habit of rambling in uncomfortable silence or awkward moments. She’s someone you can see as having for a friend. She is torn between her desire to take the opportunity to change her life by working in the art gallery and finding Rebecca. Her relationship with Chris kept me turning the pages.

Chris is a mystery. He’s rich and famous but doesn’t act it. He prefers people to not know he is the famous Chris Merit. Chris wants to protect and care for Sara. His feelings for her make him act in ways that break the rules he has set out. He has a dark secret that he knows will make Sara run away. At the end of the book, we get a glimpse of his dark secret.

Sara’s new boss, Mark, is dominating. Mark and Chris seemed to have been friends once, but something happened between them. Adding another mystery to try and unravel.

The ending is a cliffhanger. I’m dying to know what happens. The second book, Being Me, is on my anticipated books list. I can’t wait for its release.

The romance between Sara and Chris made the romantic in my happy while the mystery behind Rebecca’s disappearance made the suspense lover in my happy. It’s a perfect blend of the two.

I recommend this book to any reader who is looking for an erotic romance with mystery, intrigue, and a hot alpha male who likes to take charge.

5 Stars = A Must Read (I will be reading this one again.)

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY MEETS BASIC INSTINCTS

Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away.
He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do.

I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away.

He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

How it began….

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expires.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her…

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

Welcome the talented Lisa Renee Jones to the blog. I'm happy to have her join us to talk about her latest book, IF I WERE YOU. Today she is sharing how the story came about. I was fortunate to get an ARC of this book. It is simply amazing! I loved it! Without further ado, here’s Lisa.
~Stephanie

I am very excited to be here today to talk about IF I WERE YOU! This story came from the my experiences with my fiancee when we were buying and selling storage auction units, long before the shows like Storage Wars existed. I remember when we started buying and selling and how uncomfortable I was with buying things people lost. But my DH is a collector and finding treasures appealed to him in a big way. So he set forth to find treasures and I helped. Oh the boxes and dirt I dug through and the odd things I found. DH went for obvious treasures and I had a knack for pulling out the unknown and researching and finding it to be valuable. Heck, we got an old yellow 70’s couch and people were fighting over it. Someone out of state sent a truck to pick it up! At first, we thought it was trash. Oh no. It was an antique and since it was made AFTER I was born, I felt like an antique!:(

But the real jewel was the journal DH laid down on the couch to reach one day when he was sick. The woman had a crazy life filled with a murder next door, an abusive boyfriend and pregnancies at a young age with lots of trauma. DH was enthralled and started begging me to write a sexy intrigue about a journal in a storage unit. That was years ago and I finally listened. So that is how IF I WERE YOU came about! So in the story you follow the journal the main character finds and the path that journal takes her on. I hope you will give it a try.

Interested in the story or the storage auction world? Ask away or just comment for your chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card.

Want to win $75? I draw every week on Saturday through August 24th. Every time IF I WERE YOU hits 100 new bookshelves I draw for $75. If it hits 500 new shelves that week I draw for $75 5 times. You can win more than once.

Review Blade Song by J.C. Daniels – A Recommended Read

Blade Song is my first reading venture into Urban Fantasy and I loved it! I couldn't get enough. As soon as I finished the book, I wanted the next one in the series. Unfortunately, Night Blade isn't out yet.

Blade Song is written in first person from Kit's point of view. Kit is a kickass heroine who is still discovering what the magic within her can do. She has issues that she’s working through while doing a job for the local alpha shapeshifters. A job she really doesn’t want to do but has to or she’s dead. I loved Kit because I felt like I could relate to her even though she lives in a world with magic and shapeshifters.

Kit calls Damion an asshole throughout the book. I whole heartily agreed with her in the beginning. Gradually, Damion changed and won me over. Not an easy thing to do without the benefit of his point of view. By the end, I loved him.

While Blade Song isn’t a romance, the romantic thread between Kit and Damon was enough for me (a person who rarely reads a fiction book that isn’t a romance). I’m curious to see where the relationship between Kit and Damon will head in future books.

I recommend this book to any reader especially romance reader who wants to venture into Urban Fantasy. A worthwhile read that will leave you wanting more.

5 Stars – A Must Read (a book I will definitely read again)

Note: Review based on ARC from NetGalley.

For a chance to win one of two copies of Blade Song, go to the giveaway here

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

Fragile by Shiloh Walker Available in Mass Paperback August 7

Available in trade paperback and digitally. Releasing in mass market summer 2012

Sometimes the last thing you want is exactly what you need

BATTLE SCARRED

Six years after trading in his combat gear for hospital scrubs, Luke Rafferty still hasn't found what he's been searching for: a normal life. At his job, Luke is faced with things just as heartbreaking as those on the battlefield, none more so than the abused children brought in by a pretty red-headed social worker.

HEARTBROKEN

For Devon Manning, being a social worker is a rewarding job, but also a constant reminder of her own troubled youth. Devon takes everything one day at a time unable to form a relationship with anyone except the children she rescues.

A DESIRE TO HEAL

When Luke meets Devon, he thinks he might have found what he's been looking for, but in order to get the life he wants, Luke has to break through Devon's emotional barriers and make her realize that his healing touch might be just the complication her life needs

Excerpt:

Luke just shrugged. "Hey, you ought to hear some of the foreign-body stories I could tell you. And being in a college town? It's even worse."

Her brow creased. Leery, she repeated, "Foreign bodies?"

He grinned. "You probably don't want to know. People can do very, very bizarre things and they don't even have the excuse of being a kid."

Now that, Devon understood. She'd had to go to many a home to speak with parents when their kids got hurt doing the normal kid thing. Kids did get hurt, and sometimes, kids hurt themselves in a purely innocent manner, but so often it made neighbors or teachers concerned. As unpleasant as it was, and as much as parents hated it, Devon would rather make those visits than visit the hospital because nobody reported the abuse.

That sobering thought had the smile on her face dying. A hand touched her lightly on the shoulder, a quick, innocuous touch. She looked at Luke to find him studying her. "Where did you go?"

Devon shrugged. "Just thinking. Kids
it's amazing what they can do. One minute they have you laughing, then you're ready to pull your hair out and scream, and then you just want to cry."

"I think you could use a few more of the laughing minutes."

He lifted his hand, and Devon watched, mesmerized, as he caught a flyaway curl. Her hair was a thick, nearly unmanageable mass of curls. Usually she had it gelled and pulled back into some kind of submission, but at the end of the day the first thing she did was let it out of the twists, clips, and knots she used during the day. Loose, it hung halfway down her back. When it was wet, she could sit on it.

"I don't suppose you'd take your hair down, would you?" Luke asked, a little out of the blue.

She blinked, tipped back her head to see his face a little better. "Take it down?"

"Yeah." He continued to rub the curl back and forth between his fingers as he lifted his gaze to hers. His eyes were heavy- lidded, giving him a sleepy, sexy look that had her wanting to lean in and kiss him.
